Health Disparities

There shouldn't be such a disparity in health outcomes

in the 5th wealthiest nation in the world.

So what?

  • Low-income households have limited healthcare options. One in three people in three different zip codes in HD 82 are uninsured.

  • Uninsurance rates are even higher depending on age, race, ethnicity, and educational attainment.

  • The infant mortality rate was higher than the nations’ rate for five years running (2013-2018). Out of 92 counties, Allen County is the 4th highest for infant mortalities in Indiana. In 2017 there were 7 infant deaths per 1000 live births in Allen County. However, in the 46806 zip code, it was more than double this at 15.4 deaths per 1,000 live births. Deaths among Black infants jumped from 11.0 deaths in 2019 to 13.0 deaths per 1000 live births in 2020.

  • Indiana's maternal mortality rate is 43.6 per 100,000, making it the third-highest in the country.
